| Minorities of Europe (MoE) is a 'Pan European Inter-minority
network' which seeks to support and assist the co-operation, solidarity
and exchange between different minority communities and young people in
Europe. |
| MoE was established in 1995 as a result of the Council
of Europe's campaign against racism, anti-semitism, xenophobia and intolerance
across the continent of Europe. |
| The campaign, entitled 'All different All Equal',
reflected widespread concerns about the rising levels of racism and xenophobia,
and the debilitating sense of isolation endured by many minority groups,
not only within their own societies but also with similarly situated groups
and communities in other countries. |
| In contrast to this cultural fragmentation and isolation,
the individuals behind MoE had a shared vision of inter-minority and inter-minority
and majority co-operation. |
| Through it they hoped to confront discrimination
and disadvantage and the associated sense of insecurity, which many of these
young people felt. In facing and overcoming these challenges, they aimed
to achieve genuine equal participation for minority young people in Europe. |
 |
- To support and promote positive intercultural relations between minority
and majority communities.
- To overcome mutual prejudice among minorities and majorities and
the perception of powerlessness that minority young people often feel.
- To sustain the participation and integration of minority communities
in Europe.
- To initiate and promote tangible projects and examples of community
development between people of different faiths, cultures and traditions.
- To provide a framework for co-operation and exchange between minority
groups, especially those who feel most isolated in Europe.
- To contribute to the development of an inter-cultural Europe, open
to and based upon the contribution and participation of all communities,
particularly those facing exclusion and alienation from the process
of European integration.
